Celebrating Academic Excellence: Meet Our 2025 Valedictorian and Salutatorian Plainview High School is proud to recognize the academic excellence of our 2025 Valedictorian, Eowyn Thornhill, and Salutatorian, Brooklyn Collins. Eowyn Thornhill, our 2025 Valedictorian, shared that this honor symbolizes the result of years of dedication, and the encouragement she received from her teachers and parents. She highlighted her AP Calculus class during her junior year as a pivotal experience—especially thanks to her favorite teacher, Mrs. Franklin. Eowyn emphasized the strong impact that educators like Mrs. Franklin, Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. Comans, and Mrs. Martin had on her academic journey. She plans to attend Rice University to study mathematics and hopes to study abroad, take unique classes like fencing and creative writing, and continue volunteering. Eowyn’s advice to students is simple but powerful: Be kind, respect everyone, and don’t let others' opinions limit your potential. Brooklyn Collins shared that being named Salutatorian is a huge accomplishment and a reflection of the perseverance, hard work, and dedication she’s poured into her education. She’s grateful for the support she's received from family and staff throughout her life. When asked about her high school journey, Brooklyn said it’s the little moments—like laughs in the hallway, coffee runs, and heartfelt advice from teachers—that left the biggest impact. She credits her parents, siblings, grandma, and youth pastor for being her guiding lights, and looks forward to attending the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor to study Pre-Med. Her advice to future students? Always strive to be better than you were yesterday and be confident in your own path.

Important Notice for Students & Families We are aware of a harmful TikTok trend that encourages students to insert objects like paper clips or pushpins into their Chromebooks, causing serious damage. Unfortunately, we’ve already had several reports of this happening across our district. As a result, principals have begun the process of collecting devices, and students found intentionally damaging Chromebooks will be assigned to DAEP/Impact and may face criminal mischief charges. Please talk to your child about the seriousness of this trend. We urge our students to protect their devices and avoid making decisions that could negatively impact their education or future. Take care of your Chromebook—don’t risk it for a trend. https://www.mysuncoast.com/2025/05/06/school-officials-say-tiktok-trend-has-students-forcing-paper-clips-pushpins-into-chromebooks/?outputType=amp

🎨✨ Our PHS Art Department brought creativity to life at the Larry Dickerson Education Center—and the design came from one of our very own, Ambriette Rose Balderas! Her artwork was selected and brought to life by fellow art students as part of a grant-funded community project. From planning to painting, these students showcased their talent, teamwork, and pride. Take a look at the process and the final masterpiece—our community is lucky to have such creative minds! 👏🖌️

🏀 New League Launch Recap! 🏀 This past weekend, two of our very own—Coach Stephen Aycock and Mrs. Amanda Aycock—officially launched the West Texas Legends League, a brand-new youth summer basketball program! From start to finish, the first weekend was a huge success! The community showed up with incredible support, the kids had a blast, and everything ran smoothly. It was a day filled with energy, teamwork, and fun! This league is all about more than just basketball—it's about building character, leadership, and community through sports. 🗣️ From Coach Aycock and Mrs. Aycock: “Plainview is a special place to our family. In our 15 years as a part of this community we have seen amazing things happening. A youth summer basketball program is something we have wanted to start to contribute to the already great things happening here. We have seen an outpouring of participation, volunteers, support from PISD, and enthusiasm amongst our community and surrounding communities. This is just the start of something amazing for kids and families. We are beyond blessed and humbled to be a part of it.” We’re so proud of the Aycocks and grateful for the chance to partner in something so impactful. Also to support this kind of powerful community engagement. This is what Plainview is all about! 🙌

Meet our new Head Tennis Coach – Coach Galen Reid! Inspired by his own high school coach, Coach Cochran, and his experience playing in an adult tennis league, Coach Galen Reid brings a deep love for the game and a strong coaching background to his new role as Head Tennis Coach at PHS. He previously served as head coach at Claude High School for one year and at Tascosa High School for six years, and most recently was part of the PHS tennis staff. Coach Reid is passionate about helping players grow, pushing them to reach their full potential, and watching their hard work turn into success on the court. He’s stepping into this role following Coach Webb’s retirement, and we’re excited to continue the momentum built under his leadership. Coach Reid has been married for 26 years to his wonderful wife, Shelley, who supported his coaching journey by returning to work so he could pursue his passion. They have two sons: Colin, a History major at the University of North Texas, and Reagan, who will begin his doctoral degree in Biology at the University of Oklahoma this fall. His goals for the PHS tennis program are ambitious — he hopes to build a team that competes for state titles in both individual and team tennis. Fun fact: he’s a bit of a sports junkie and loves catching games on sports channels! Outside of tennis, he enjoys teaching Chemistry at Plainview High School and being a part of our school community. We are excited for what’s ahead with Coach Reid leading the way!
