PHS Senior, Elleigh Campbell, was surprised Tuesday afternoon with a scholarship from the Brooke Ashton Parker Memorial Foundation. The scholarship is given in memory of Brooke Parker who was killed by a drunk driver in November 2017. The Memorial Foundation was started by her family to honor her memory and to help bring awareness to the problem of driving while intoxicated.
Brett Parker, Brooke's father, was at Plainview High School Tuesday to personally present the scholarship to Elleigh Campbell. Mr. Parker told the story behind the scholarship and before reminding Campbell of the stipulations for the scholarship, "We ask our recipients to never drink and drive and to do something awesome with their life." While talking to Elleigh's parents, Craig and Meredith Campbell, Mr. Parker said their message when talking to parents and students in large gatherings is for parents to team up with their children by putting money in a LYFT account for their student so that their student always has a safe way out of potentially dangerous situations.
The Brooke Ashton Parker Memorial Foundation has given away approximately $138,000 in scholarship money. This year alone the foundation will give 28 scholarships. For more information about the Brooke Ashton Parker Memorial Foundation, visit the foundation's Facebook page.
