¡Buen día! Aproximadamente a las 8:55 a. m., la alarma de incendio en Plainview Intermediate se activó en la cocina durante la preparación del almuerzo debido al humo en la cocina. (No hubo incendio). Evacuamos el edificio para priorizar la seguridad de todos. El Departamento de Bomberos de Plainview respondió rápidamente al Intermedio para dar el visto bueno a nuestros alumnos y personal para que regresaran a su horario habitual. Good Morning! At approximately, 8:55 A.M., the fire alarm at Plainview Intermediate was set off in the kitchen during lunch prep due to smoke in the kitchen. (There was no fire.) We did evacuate the building to prioritize the safety of all. The Plainview Fire Department quickly responded to the Intermediate to give the all clear for our scholars and staff to return to their regular schedule. The safety and well-being of our scholars and staff is our first priority. We take all potential hazards very seriously and will continue to do so. No scholars, no PLIS staff nor SFE staff were injured.

PLIS - Friendly Reminder: Our Annual Dyslexia Parent Meeting is today from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Plainview Intermediate. We welcome parents of students who currently receive Dyslexia services as well as any others who need information about the program.

Please Review: 5th Grade Girls Scoliosis Screening Information - Tuesday, 10/17 Dear Parent/Guardian: PLIS will be conducting spinal screenings 10/17/23. The purpose of spinal screening is to detect the signs of abnormal curves of the spine at their earliest stages so that the need for treatment can be determined. Scoliosis, a common spinal abnormality found in adolescents, is a sideways twisting of the spine. It is usually detected in children between 10 and 14 years of age. Kyphosis, sometimes called round back, is an exaggerated rounding of the upper back and is often confused with poor posture. Many cases of curvature of the spine are mild and require only ongoing observation by a physician when they are first diagnosed. Others can worsen with time as the child grows and require active treatment such as bracing and surgery. Early treatment can prevent the development of a severe deformity, which can affect a person’s appearance and health. The procedure for screening is simple. Screeners who have been specially trained will look at your child’s back while he/she stands and then bends forward. For this examination, boys and girls will be seen separately and individually. ALL STUDENTS MUST REMOVE THEIR SHIRT FOR THIS EXAM. FOR THIS REASON, WE REQUEST THAT GIRLS WEAR A HALTER TOP, TUBE TOP, SPORTS BRA OR A TWO-PIECE SWIMSUIT TOP UNDERNEATH THEIR SHIRT ON EXAMINATION DAY. Parents will be notified of the results of the screening only if professional follow-up is necessary. This screening procedure does not replace your child’s need for regular health care and check-ups. Texas State Law recently changed the required grade levels to be screened. In compliance with Health and Safety Code, Chapter 37, all children shall undergo screening for abnormal spinal curvature in accordance with the following schedule: • Girls will be screened two times, once at age 10 (or fall semester of grade 5) and again at age 12 (or fall semester of grade 7). • Boys will be screened one time at age 13 or 14 (or fall semester of grade 8). If for religious reasons, you do not wish to have your child screened, you are to submit an affidavit of religious exemption to this office no later than the day of screening, 10/17/23.
