Pulling From The Top
Plainview ISD has done a great job preparing students for state standardized tests. Plainview ISD students and staff have performed among the highest not only in the South Plains but also in the State! Our 87.4 (B+) rating reflects academic excellence, and PHS’ designation as one of the top 300 high schools in Texas according to US News and World Reports speaks to PISD “Setting the Standard in Education.”
Where other districts stop once students master the state standardized test, our PISD staff is focused on pulling from the top. Twenty-three math, English, and science sophomore through senior PHS instructors have undergone hours of training to sharpen their lesson design and instructional delivery against the soapstone of ACT rigor!
Never settling on good and always striving for greatness, PISD has launched a new effort for the 2018-19 academic year that we feel will help our students achieve even higher levels of academic excellence and scholarship dollars. Last year our students earned $1,250.80.00 of scholarship dollars, and our goal is for this year’s class to earn more! We have partnered with Mastery Prep, an organization focused on preparing students to achieve at the highest levels on the ACT college entrance examination.
Our PHS teachers are taking it up a notch with a dedicated focus on classroom instruction that prepares PISD students for the ACT. This includes an ACT focus in our career and technical education courses, as well. For the 2019 ACT administration, we have targeted expanding the number of students taking the exam to 343, an increase of 304 from last year, and we are setting our target for next year even higher!
