Jennifer Hughey | Principal
This is my first year as the proud principal of La Mesa Elementary. I started my teaching career 13 years ago. I taught kindergarten, 1st grade, 4th grade, 5th grade reading, and 5th grade math. After teaching for 10 years, I stepped out of the classroom and became an instructional coach. After just one year, I moved to the central office and became the Elementary Coordinator for Teaching and Learning. This past fall, I came over to La Mesa as an assistant principal and then, over Christmas break, I transitioned into the role of principal.
I attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, in Weatherford, Oklahoma. After teaching for several years, I went back and received my masters degree from Northern Arizona University. I am married to Landon, who is the assistant basketball coach at Lubbock Christian University. We have two daughters, Remie and Ruthie. When I’m not at school, I enjoy being outside with my girls and going to sporting events at Wayland.
